*** Saturday 8 July Live in Mondiali ***
Since 1994, Shandon has been a key band in the independent Italian music scene. In ten years, from 1994 to 2004, they lived a brazen career that saw them produce 6 albums, countless EPs, share the most prestigious stage with the world’s leading punk rock bands guided from day zero by singer and frontman Olly Riva .
We interviewed them for the Mondiali, here’s what they told us
Since when are you playing together and what kind of music do you do?
We founded our band in 1994. We made punk, rockabilly, ska, so we identified our style with the word punkbillyskacore, which also became our demo. From there we started to do the first concerts.
Why did you choose to come to the Mondiali?
We are strongly antiracist. Our music evokes mixing, is a genus that has mixed roots. We were also one of the first bands to play overseas at problematic locations.
Our texts are not political but try to convey and manifest our message.
Which song would you dedicate to the Mondiali?
A song called Egostasi, from the album Fetish. There is a phrase that says “sheltering from the sun, enduring what is easy”. We want to say that music can be solar, easy, but we’ve always wanted something stronger, deeper. Racism comes from misunderstanding and fear, to stop at superficiality without deepening. You have to go further, as the Mondiali do.
